One of the best benefits the Internet has introduced is the ability to stay in touch with family members and friends who live far away. Now you can share your photos with them immediately, so they can see your adventures or watch your kids grow up with you. There are several sites that allow you to share your photos; here are some of the best options out there.
Photobucket
Photobucket is the ideal site for users who constantly have their camera on hand; the site has tons of storage space for you to store all your photos and videos for free. You can share all your memories via email, IM and mobile phone, and the site is also connected to social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook.
Photoshop Express
An online extension of the photo editing software Photoshop, Photoshop Express allows you to crop, tweak and rotate photos online. With you’re free account, you’ll be able to store up to 2GB of digital images for free. The site also offers a 3D gallery option to allow you to show off your photos in an enhanced format.
Fotolog
Fotolog takes a different approach than most photo sharing sites. With a Fotolog account, you’re permitted to upload one photo per day as a daily photo log. You can get involved with other members of the Fotolog community as well.
Shutterfly
Shutterfly allows you to be creative with your photo memories. Upload photos onto the site, and you can create a unique photo book, greeting card or other photo gifts. Shutterfly also permits free online storage and photo sharing.

It’s hard to believe that just a few years ago YouTube didn’t exist. Today, the site is a household name, there are hundreds of millions of users across the globe and more than 24 hours of video are uploaded to the site every minute. Though the site was bought by Google in 2006 for a staggering $1.65 billion, founders Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim most likely never predicted that a site with such small beginnings could have such an astonishing impact.
Hurley, Chen and Karim were employees of PayPal in its early years; Karim and Chen both held degrees in computer science from the University of Illinois, and Hurley earned a design degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Though the story has been disputed, it’s been largely reported that Hurley and Chen developed the idea for the site in 2005. The pair were attempting to share videos that had been shot at a dinner party at Chen’s apartment, but were having difficulty doing so. (Karim, who was not at the dinner party, has said that this story was fabricated to give the public a more interesting story of how the site was founded.)
Sequoia Capital gave the company the boost it needed to start with a $11.5 million investment, and soon the domain www.youtube.com was born. The first video, which can still be viewed on the site, is titled “Me at the zoo” and shows Karim at the San Diego Zoo.
The site grew quickly—by 2006, it had already achieved fame, and the company announced that the site recorded more than 100 million video views daily and 65,000 new videos were being posted each day.

More than 24 hours of video are uploaded each minute to YouTube from users throughout the world. From videos of Golden Retriever puppies dozing off to Academy Award speeches, there’s a little something for everyone on the site. However, a few specific types of videos have emerged as the most popular, and they’re typically the types that go viral.
Music Videos
Music videos on YouTube rack up millions of hits. Artists from Lady Gaga and Beyonce to Susan Boyle and Andrea Bocelli all have legions of fans that check out their videos on YouTube. Music videos have gone viral for a variety of reasons; often, when a song is ranking high on the Billboard charts, it’s also going viral on YouTube. Other videos, such as OK Go’s “Here It Goes Again” (otherwise known as The Treadmill Video), have gained popularity for its innovative content.
Children
Parents often post videos of quirky situations with their children, and many have gained worldwide popularity. All capture moments in which children are being utterly honest—and hilarious without even knowing it. Arguably one of the most recognized videos is the “Charlie Bit My Finger” video, which has hundreds of millions of views and portrays a perturbed young British boy with a mouthy baby brother. Another beloved video is “David after Dentist,” portraying a young boy who acts a bit out of it after having dental surgery.
Notable Talents
Susan Boyle became recognizable around the world after her performance on Britain’s Got Talent—millions logged onto YouTube following it to hear her gorgeous voice. Other talents, such as Taiwain’s Lin Yu Chun singing “I Will Always Love You,” have become famous thanks to the site.

Web development has become a very profitable career field due to the rapid expansion of the online world.
As a web developer, you’ll have the choice of many paths including focusing on web page designs or mobile app development.
However, with the rapid development of the online world has come the need to continually sharpen your web design skills to remain relevant. Here are three great ways to hone your web design skills and expand your success as a budding developer.
Network With Others
Whether you’re new to the web design field or have been a designer for many years, networking with other professionals in the field is crucial to sharpening your skills.
Other designers will have tips and tricks you may not have previously considered and may even offer you job leads. Many developers collaborate on projects to make the most of their collective talents.
Many venues can be utilized as networking tools for meeting others in the web design realm. The simplest option is to use social media as a means of interacting with other professionals in the field. Begin by following other designers you admire on social media networks such as Twitter or by following the blogs and other social media efforts of those professionals.
Also, reputable web design conferences such as In Control and An Event Apart can serve as great networking outlets.
Receive Formalized Training
Perhaps the best option for sharpening your web design skills is to take formalized training. Learning web development online is a great way to learn the core tools used by the most successful designers in this niche market. Additionally, online courses can be completed in an expedited manner versus other forms of training, so you can begin implementing the knowledge you learn into your designs sooner.
Use new Tools
New web design tools are continuously being released that can simplify your web development process. If you’ve been using the same tools since beginning as a designer, this may be the time to start testing out other options.
The following are a few of the most well-known web development tools to simplify your developing process:
• Firebug – This FireFox extension allows you to review the CSS and HTML of any web page.
• MeasureIt – Measure web page elements with this FireFox extension to simplify your design process.
• Lipsum – Use this placeholder text generator during the mock-up process to view how various page elements will appear.
Web development is one of the few career fields that can provide the freedom to do what you love while earning a respectable income. While it’s possible to achieve immense success in web development, doing so requires a continual sharpening of design skills to remain relevant in this competitive market. By doing such things as receiving formalized training and networking with other designers, you can transform this budding venture into a profitable career.
